What is transmission slipping?

Transmission slipping is a common problem in automatic transmissions where the gears shift irregularly or don't engage properly. This problem can cause the engine to rev up or down when you're driving, leading to poor acceleration and engine performance.

The main cause of transmission slipping is a lack of pressure inside the transmission fluid pump, which reduces the amount of hydraulic pressure created for the gears to engage and move freely. Other causes include low fluid levels, worn or damaged friction disks/clutch plates, defective solenoids, or a failing torque converter.

The symptoms of transmission slipping can include the engine revving up or down without changes in speed, a burning smell from the transmission fluid, the won’t shift into gear, and the car’s overall performance. To prevent transmission slipping, it is important to maintain the transmission fluid level, regularly change the transmission oil, and have it professionally serviced. If you suspect your vehicle is experiencing transmission slipping, it is important to bring it to a qualified mechanic to properly diagnose the issue.
